Glen rose
Do you have a dinosaur obsessed kid?! If so, you have to add Dinosaur Valley State Park to your list of must-dos in Glen Rose, Texas. After humongous dinosaur replicas greet you on your way in for a cool photo op, we recommend driving to the Paluxy River Trail to explore this 2-mile trail along the river, where you will locate the dinosaur tracks! This trail will take you on a nice hike along the river to the Main Track Site, Ballroom Track Site and Blue Hole - which hits the highlights of visible tracks in the park. You can spend a full day exploring here (there area tons of trails), so pack a picnic lunch and enjoy learning about dinos! You can also earn a Texas State Parks Junior Ranger badge here, so don’t forget to ask for a book at the entrance and complete it for a badge during your trip!
(*If a lot of rainfall has happened prior to your visit, the dinosaur tracks may not be visible – you should be able to find out this information online through the Texas Parks system before your visit.)
Where we stayed: Dinosaur Valley RV Park – this is the perfect RV park to stay at for your trip to Dinosaur Valley and the kids LOVE it here (our 5-year-old frequently asks to go back!). This RV park is just 3-minutes down the road from the state park, has a petting zoo of goats, a fort replica & teepees for kids to play in, a playground, bathroom/shower facilities, cabins available for rent and is also near the river where the whole family can go play and explore. There is also a community fire pit and while we were there, live music on Saturday night! Oh, and Dinosaur World is just across the street, so if your kiddos didn’t get enough dinosaur at the state park, you can head on over to Dinosaur World for more fun (* Dinosaur World tickets are $17.95 per adult & $13.95 per child)
Favorite Food Spot: Shoo-Fly Soda Shop - This is a fun stop for kids as it is a 1950s style diner set-up with barstools at the counter, a good old-fashioned grilled cheese (and a delicious BLT!), and yummy milkshakes. The restaurant is also a cute store with all kinds of fun toys, old school candy and knick-knacks to keep your kids entertained while waiting for food.
