St. Augustine

Did you know that St. Augustine is America’s oldest city?! We honestly had no idea that we would love it here as much as we did! It’s a beautiful city that is absolutely worth adding to your vacation list.

5 Fun Activities with Kids in St. Augustine:

  1. Walk downtown St. Augustine and walk down the oldest street in America - Aviles Street - that was originally constructed in the 1600s. Downtown St. Augustine has so much history, cute shops and great restaurants; it’s worth the stroll! *stroller friendly

  2. Visit Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. This amazing structure is the oldest masonry for in the continental United States. Built in 1695 by the Spanish to defend the coast of Florida and the Atlantic trade route, this national monument is definitely a must see in Saint Augustine. Most Saturdays, there are also historic weapons demonstrations and kiddos can earn Junior Ranger badges here too! *stroller friendly (except for climbing to the top, which you can leave the stoller downstairs if you choose to go up)

  3. Go to the beach. There are several lovely beaches near St. Augustine, so don’t miss having a beach day while you are in the area! We also found lots of shark teeth at the beaches here, so be on the lookout!

  4. Visit the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum. Our kiddos loved this place! A lot of genuine history and artifacts from the time of piracy with also little fun and mischief along the way. This is a great stop for kids and pirate enthusiasts. *stroller friendly, but some areas are kind of tight

  5. Fish along the Vilano Beach Fishing Pier. This is a free fishing pier that is a great spot to cast your line and also see some local wildlife!

Where we stayed: Stagecoach RV Park. This was a nice full hook-up RV park with a very homey feel just outside of St. Augustine. While there did seem to be an older crowd here and not many kids, they did have outdoor games set up, swings and a basketball court for the kiddos. This park was very clean and well maintained with nice laundry and bath facilities as well. We also found it to be very reasonably priced for Florida!

Favorite Food Stops: 1) Columbia Restaurant for traditional Spanish cuisine. Our picky eaters actually loved this restaurant and ate all of their food - which never happens! And mom & dad enjoyed the house-made sangria! 2) Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille. This was another delicious stop where the kids actually loved their food. Their outside courtyard is a relaxing place to rest for a yummy lunch while you are exploring America’s oldest city.
